If Tarhib runs off a mark of 83 she’ll be something to bet on in the My Odds Boost On Betfair Handicap, usually a pointer to the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, but she’s doubly declared in the previous race, the Listed Kilvington Stakes where she’d also be interesting even if she does have a bit to find with the principals. His trainer has done well in this event before but I’d have liked to see more from him in the Cambridgeshire to be interested first time out at relatively short odds. Runner-up in the Hunt Cup and third in a traditionally strong handicap at the Ebor meeting, I can see him going back to York’s Dante meeting with a big chance in the mile handicap before returning to Ascot in June where he’ll no doubt be one of the fancied runners. One of the most profitable angles since I’ve been betting has been to follow older handicappers trained by Sir Michael Stoute in May and his Astro King has enough form to suggest he should be there at the finish, although he did disappoint in the Cambridgeshire on his only try over course and distance.
Still a colt, he could have lots of improvement to come and the stable have a brilliant record at Newmarket, although he will need to be well handicapped and fit to do his absolute best to carry a big weight to victory here on seasonal debut.
Godolphin’s four-year-old, Dahabi, has been off the track for 567 days since finishing third here to Old Ruler in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes as a two-year-old.
